In 1973 a baby boy was born with serious health problems. The doctors took over to some extent and decided he would die quite soon. From then on he was treated with care by nurses but we were made rather distant from the process. When he died the funeral directors took over and again, decisions were made for us. I can still remember the funeral which was rather distant and seemed to have little relevance. The sadness was ours but little else. It would have felt so much kinder to this little soul to have prepared him, carried him and buried him without any interference. One never forgets but remembrance is tinged with regret.
