Liz’s unique insights and experiences as a performer, celebrant and award winning burial ground owner have created a highly original and beautifully cathartic show, combining mercurial tales and miraculous truths, collected over the years from life’s finishing line. Funny, wise and taboo busting; OUTSIDE THE BOX confronts the ‘elephant in the room’ with grace and humour, asking its audience to embrace mortality and look on the bright side of life, with a weave of untold and surprising stories, a hint of history and some pithy commentary on the funeral industry (from one who knows!)

After touring the show on and off for 10 years I have decided to focus on new work and stop being available for live performances.

Because of the response to the show and the feedback about how valuable the material has been to a wide variety of audiences I decided the best way to create a lasting legacy was to make a film of the performance.

I wanted to make a quality record of the piece and after meeting Joe Magee on a creative retreat in Pembrokeshire asked if he would work with me on this project. I was delighted when he said yes since anyone who is good enough for Bill Bailey is definitely good enough for me!

We decided that the small, intimate setting of the Burton Taylor studio would suit the filming perfectly as well as being the ideal size for good interaction with the audience in the postshow discussion.

The film will be available for use wherever people feel it can be useful as a prompt for conversations about death and life or to promote training and education.  For example, Dying Matters events, education in schools, colleges and a range of medical contexts or as part of arts or film  festivals.

I will sometimes be available to accompany the film or it can stand alone without her and be introduced by someone from the venue hiring or buying it.  I believe that experts local to the area where the film is being viewed are of greater value to the audience because they remain available as a resource to them in their community.
