Let's talk about death

Feeling that the conversation about death and dying often comes too late for most people, that is when someone has just died, Liz set up the first Kicking the Bucket in Oxford in 2012. This was the first ever death themed festival in the UK happening outside London, just a few months after Jude Kelly ran one at the Southbank Centre. Great minds think alike!

It is called a Festival of Living and Dying because Liz passionately believes that the two cannot be separated and part of our problems with death are to do with trying to do just that. People report again and again how much lighter, more relaxed they feel when they have approached the subject in the company of others. Far from being gloomy death can be a very life enhancing subject.

The last Kicking the Bucket festival took place from November 3-5, 2023 in and around Oxford and online.  Liz feels that there is now so much more material available both locally, nationally and online that there is no need to create another festival.  Not before time, death has entered the national conversation.
