I totally agree with you about reclaiming the funeral process from the undertakers and orthodoxy of doing the right thing. I have worked as an Anglican priest for 30 years but find myself much more comfortable officiating at the non-religious funerals or with a liturgy that is outside the constraints of the funeral service in the book. Talking about death and preparing for it needs to be part of our lifestyle again. Death Cafe’s are a great initiative. It is a huge privilege to be part of the process both before someone dies or making sense of what to do to get the funeral right for the deceased of the family.
