I work as a home hospice nurse and people always respond when they hear this is what I do with, “aww, good for you!” or, “Oh my God I could never do that!” I explain that I don’t see it as a hardship, or view myself as an angel. Instead I understand my job to be a privilege. I am allowed into people’s lives in the most intimate way. This is the worst and most raw (sometimes) time for the family and I get to be a death doula.
