In the day unit in our local hospice it is policy to have a conversation with all new patients about their resuscitation wishes. I was approaching the topic with the usual sensitive explanation when the woman in front of me unbuttoned her blouse and proudly displayed DO NOT RESUSCITATE tattooed across her left breast. The easiest and most entertaining DNR conversation I’ve ever had!
In Shropshire the End Of Life Care Strategy Group are developing a ‘RESPECT’ document which will carry a person’s wishes around resuscitation and end of life and will be transferrable across care settings.
