At my Dad’s funeral the family were delighted when his music friends came up to us and asked if they could play for him. He was received into the church the night before the funeral service. They played the songs beautifully. But my Dad played the piano accordion and came from Ireland. The musicians said, “we really just wanted to play a jig at the end, so would you mind if we play a jig at the end of the funeral service tomorrow?” We were delighted and knew my Dad would love it. As the solemn Requiem Mass ended the family began to follow the coffin and the music group belted out his favourite jig. We all smiled through our tears… but we also saw many shocked faces in the congregation.
