My partner died of brain cancer. We hadn’t been together long and I knew about it from the beginning. When he died, his funeral was planned by me, his family and friends. Initially we had no idea what to do having a dead body upstairs, I thought of calling the Co-Op since they seemed to be known to us all. We then discovered how free we could be with the arrangements. Stu was a smoker and we found a coffin seller who had a coffin made out of old floor boards from the tobacco factory which seemed fitting! We wrapped him in a silk sari over his favourite Hawaiian shirt, he would’ve approved. I kept some of his ashes, I finally scattered them on a hill overlooking Bristol when I knew that my new partner was to become my husband about 9 years later.
