For me death and dying and internally woven into ones culture and religion, even for those who claim to have neither. Having worked recently for two years in Saudia Arabia in a one thousand bed hospital trying to implement a Palliative Care Program to the population and healthcare system it was a shock to me at first how their society deals with death and dying compared to Western society and especially to my own Irish Catholic experienced. The heartache is as real as any other family I have attended to in Western society, but theirs is a ‘hidden grief’ and then any memory of that person is wiped away and they are rarely ever discussed again. Men only attend the burials.
