My mother died in Somerset. We live in York. At the time all our children were in the middle of exams. We decided not to have a funeral in Somerset and instructed the undertaker to cremate her body and send the ashes to us in the post. We later scattered her ashes in a family ceremony in a lovely green lane near York. Her (few) friends in Somerset discovered later and were appalled and held a memorial tea party to remember her. My mother had expressed no wishes. I still wonder what I should have done.
