As an Infants Teacher in the days when pets were welcomed in schools we had a delightful gentle little guinea pig called Rosie. She was adored by the children and we allowed here to wander about the classroom. When she died the children insisted on a proper funeral – what was that I wondered. Well, they decided that we must sing her favourite song, write some special words and bury her in the Wildlife Garden. The caretaker solved the problem of the coffin by providing a Chivas Regal box. It was a lovely sunny day and the children were very happy to have said goodbye to their lovely pet in what they felt was the “proper way”. I was the only one who cried!
