My mother loved tomatoes and cadbury’s chocolate. When she died in 2014 I felt that the last service I could do for her was to plan a meaningful funeral. I enjoyed thinking about her life and memories that I had, things she enjoyed. At the service I wanted everybody to sing ‘We’ll meet again’ because she always said she had a ‘lovely war’ (she was only 19 – all those lovely airmen!). At the wake I made sure there were cartons of tomatoes and slabs of chocolate (and copies of a chutney recipe that she made often, that people could take away). I know people thought some of that was rather odd – so thank you so much for validating my feelings through your performance.
