People assume professionals are always confident in any situation. Not so. I had a lady expire suddenly so we took her to her room. On coming round to ring the doctor I was forced by her large family coming through the ward doors of passing me to go to her room. Now, she looked very obviously dead, but they hadn’t been informed. I was unable to intercept and they trooped into her room to the corpse in the bed, mouth agape, eyes half open. I didn’t know quite what to do, so approached the body, felt the wrist and looking at the nearest members said, I am terrible sorry, she has gone. I left them to their grief, went outside and died several times myself.
